The Cobras (1-1) were making their fourth consecutive appearance in the tournament and entered the game with a 7-0 record after defeating National Park College 87-72 in Friday's first round. Parkland took a 36-31 first-half lead by going inside to forward Brunard Williams and center Joey Saracco as the two combined for 24 points in the first frame. Jalen Lynn and Zach Byrd kept it close for the Greyhounds, scoring a combined 25 points in the first half.
But after halftime, the Greyhounds (2-0) took control early, taking their first lead on a Lynn three-pointer with 17:47 remaining for a 38-36 lead, and then on the next possession Lynn hit another three-pointer from 26' to make it 41-36 and ASU Mid-South would never trail again.
Lynn led all scorers with 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting while Byrd registered his first double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Ike Moore added 10 points and 6 boards as the Greyhounds limited the Cobras to 34.7% shooting for the game including 0-for-15 from the arc.
The Greyhounds return to action in their first road contest Monday at Crowley's Ridge College in Paragould, Arkansas. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.
