Breaking his own scoring record set last season, Jalen Lynn poured in 41 points in helping the Greyhounds to a come-from-behind 84-75 victory over #14 John Wood Community College at the Fairfield Inn Classic in Quincy, Illinois. Lynn scored a then-school record of 40 points last January against West Kentucky, and now owns the school's only two 40-point performances.
Lynn shot 9-of-18 from the field, 5-of-9 from the three-point line and 18-for-19 from the free throw line as ASU Mid-South's second-half defense did the rest after the Greyhounds trailed 44-40 at the half. The host Blazers led by as many as 13 points as they shot an incredible 65.5% from the field in the first half. But the Greyhounds held John Wood to only 31 points and 40.0% shooting in the second half, forced 10 of 18 turnovers and ended up winning the battle of the boards, 35-31, in the final frame.
Not lost in the tale of the tape was Ike Moore's quiet 18 points, or Zach Byrd's 10 hard-fought points in the paint as the Greyhounds move to 4-0 on the season for the first time in school history. Next up is a matchup against Black Hawk College-Moline tomorrow at 1:00pm on the final day of the Fairfield Inn Classic before the Greyhounds return to The Dog House Monday in a doubleheader with the women against visiting Northwest Mississippi Community College. Monday's games begin with the women scheduled for 5:30pm followed by the men at approximately 7:30pm.
