Playing their sixth game in eleven days, the Greyhounds finally found their shooting touch in the second half to get past the Northwest Mississippi Rangers, 80-71, Monday at The Dog House.
Playing their sixth game in eleven days, the Greyhounds finally found their shooting touch in the second half to get past the Northwest Mississippi Rangers, 80-71, Monday at The Dog House.
The Greyhounds (5-1) trailed 33-32 at the half as neither team seemed able to score consistently with the Rangers shooting only 30.6% but holding ASU Mid-South to a mere 25.0% from both the field and the three-point line. Greyhound guard Monroe Carr kept the home team close, scoring 11 of his 14 points in the first half.
But ASU Mid-South finally found their touch in the second half, shooting 45.7% from the field and hitting five three-pointers while holding the Rangers to only 30.3% in the final frame. The Rangers stayed within striking distance, however, thanks to 27 offensive rebounds and a 53-48 overall rebounding advantage for the game.
Jalen Lynn led all scorers with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists while Ike Moore scored 17, pulled down 9 boards and dished out a team-high 5 assists before fouling out. Zach Byrd registered a team-high 11 rebounds to go with 10 points, his second double-double of the season, and Christian White finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds along with Carr's 14 points.
The Greyhounds now get 8 days off before traveling to play at St. Louis Community College on November 19 and returning to The Dog House to host Itawamba Community College on Thursday, November 21.
The first NJCAA National Rankings of the regular season also came out Monday and ASU Mid-South has moved to #17 after receiving votes just outside the top 20 in the preseason poll.
