The Greyhounds raced out to an 18-0 lead in the first 7 minutes and never led by less than 7 the rest of the way in taking a 72-57 victory over St. Louis Community College Saturday at The Dog House. The loss avenges the Greyhounds' November 19 game in St. Louis where they dropped a 74-72 decision.
This was the final game of 2019 for the Greyhounds who enter the break with a 9-3 overall record. They resume play on Monday, January 6, at the University of Arkansas Cossatot in the first of four road games before returning to The Dog House Saturday, January 18, for a Region 2 contest against Southern Arkansas University Tech.
The day was clearly the Greyhounds as Ike Moore, Jalen Lynn, and J.T. Smith all hit three-pointers in the run that wasn't broken until a 10-foot baseline runner finally fell for St. Louis with 12:36 remaining in the half. At the 9:30 mark the Greyhounds had only given up 4 points and led 26-4, but the Archers would then begin closing the gap and hit a buzzer-beater before halftime to pull within 36-23.
Then starting the second half, St. Louis would go on an 8-2 run to trim the Greyhound lead to 7 points, 38-31, at the 17:31 mark, but the Greyhounds responded with a quick 8-0 run as Zach Byrd coverted a traditional 3-point play, Lynn hit a 22' three-pointer, and Moore hit a crafty runner in the paint to stretch the lead back to 15 points, and St. Louis never threatened the rest of the way. Despite getting called for more fouls and shooting 6 fewer free throws than the visiting team, ASU Mid-South held the Archers to just 38.2% shooting and only 1-of-13 from the three-point line while shooting 48.2% from the field, and the Greyhounds overcame 25 turnovers by forcing 23 of their own.
Jalen Lynn led all scorers with 21 points and dished out a game-high 4 assists while Ike Moore dropped in 17 points with a game-high 4 steals for ASU Mid-South. Christian White scored 7 points and pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds to help ASU Mid-South control the boards, 37-31, and also had 2 blocked shots.
The Greyhounds are currently ranked #15 in the latest NJCAA National Poll.
