"I felt really good going into the game, and thought our defensive pressure could give them some trouble and force them into taking tough shots. Unfortunately, we did not do that and they shot the ball incredibly well. Once they got in a groove, it felt like every shot they were putting up was bound to go in, but that's what happens when you let a team shoot over 50% from the field. It was embarrassing. Really embarrassing, because this isn't supposed to happen. We didn't show up to play and it was evident in the first 2 minutes of the game. Highland is a good team. They smelt blood in the water and just kept attacking. We have to be better moving forward. I didn't have them prepared enough to go out there and execute at a high level. We have to let it sting, but forget about it as we have another tough opponent tomorrow in Johnson County." Head coach Cody Hastings said after the game.
Highland would come out the gate firing as they quickly jumped out to a 12-0 lead with just over 2 minutes played in the game before head coach Cody Hastings called a timeout to try and get his guys to settle down. Mid-South would go on a mini 6-0 run to cut the deficit in half before Highland's Dayveon Turner hit a 3 right in front of the Greyhounds bench. That was just the beginning for the Scotties as Highland would push the lead to 22 at intermission by a score of 46-24.
The second half started much like the first as Highland came out on fire pushing the lead up to as much as 30. Although the Greyhounds managed to play the Scotties much closer in the second half, there was just nothing they could do to put any type of pressure on Highland as they would go on to finish the game just like they started. Highland would have four guys score double digits as they were led by Sophomore forward Chris Flippin's 20 points shooting 9-9 from the floor. Dayveon Turner would add 19 points and 8 assists, while Josh Owens scored 15, and Bubba Leavell added 12. The host Scotties would end the game shooting 52.7% from the field, and an outstanding 10-21 for 47.6% from behind the arc.
Darren Wallace led the Greyhounds with 15 points, while Kyrin Dock added 12, and Chris Martin pitched in 11 off the bench. They are back in action tomorrow as they face off against #4 Johnson County back at Ben Allen Field House in Highland, Kansas. Tip-off is set for 1:00pm.
