Playing their third road game in four days following a seven-hour drive, the Lady Greyhounds ran out of gas, dropping a 79-68 decision to Northwest Mississippi Community College Monday night at Howard Coliseum in Senatobia, Mississippi.
ASU Mid-South led by two after the first quarter and trailed by two at the half, but the Lady Rangers went on a 20-12 run in the third quarter that the Lady Greyhounds just couldn't overcome.
Aaliyah Lee led ASU Mid-South with 21 points and 9 rebounds, and Jaylia Reed hit for 20 points behind four three-pointers. Meleanna Williams scored 13 points to go with 7 rebounds and 7 assists, and Arrianna Faulks chipped in 7 points.
The Lady Greyhounds shot just 39.4% from the field and 50.0% from the free throw line, and Northwest held a 53-41 rebounding advantage while forcing 17 turnovers. This evens the season series as ASU Mid-South took a 77-65 victory over the Lady Rangers on November 12 in the Lady Greyhound Classic in West Memphis.
Despite their 4-6 overall record, ASU Mid-South is currently ranked #11 in the NJCAA Division II National Poll due to their strength of schedule with all six losses coming to NJCAA Division I teams, three of whom have been in the NJCAA Division I National Rankings.
The schedule does not get easier as the Lady Greyhounds play five consecutive Division I teams before beginning Region 2 play at Southern Arkansas University Tech, currently ranked #17 in the current Division II National Poll. Next up is a trip to Dyersburg State Community College (TN) Wednesday before returning to The Dog House Saturday, December 4, against Itawamba Community College (MS) at 2:00pm.
