Flagged for a season-high 33 personal fouls, the Lady Greyhounds were able to overcome their road woes to take a 68-63 victory over the UA Cossatot Lady Colts Saturday at the UA Cossatot Bank of Lockesburg Gymnasium in Lockesburg, Arkansas.
With both teams cold from the field and only three 3-point baskets made between the two teams, ASU Mid-South hit 13-of-20 (65.0%) from the free throw line and could only watch as the home team shot 41 free throws. Fortunately, the Lady Colts hit just 21-of-41 (51.2%) and turned the ball over 26 times to give the Lady Greyhounds the edge they needed to take home the win. Despite falling behind 21-12 in the first quarter, ASU Mid-South battled back to trail 34-31 at the half. But the Lady Greyhounds outscored UA Cossatot in both the third and fourth quarters despite four of their ten players fouling out of the game.
The star of the game was ASU Mid-South guard Quintasia Leatherwood who led both teams in four statistical categories with 26 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals while shooting an outstanding 10-of-18 from the field, 1-of-1 from the three-point line and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. Aryah Hazley finished with 12 points and 4 assists while Kya Washington scored 7 points as both players fouled out of the game.
The Lady Greyhounds (12-6, 2-1) return to The Dog House to host National Park College Thursday at 5:30pm before finishing the first half of Region 2 play at North Arkansas College Saturday.
