The Greyhounds took control early and cruised to an 80-68 victory over North Lake College (TX) in the season-opener for both teams. The win was the third season-opening win in a row for a program coming off a 22-9 season last year that saw ASU Mid-South also win their third NJCAA Region 2 Championship in a row.
Cruising to a 43-25 halftime lead, the Greyhounds played all 12 players who suited up as all five starters played less than half the game. All-Region guard Jalen Lynn led the way with 16 points in only 19 minutes while Ike Moore scored 13 points and pulled down a game-high 8 rebounds. Jarius Sharp scored 12 points in his Greyhound debut while Garret Finley added 10 points.
The Greyhounds (1-0) went 11-for-25 from the three-point line for an outstanding 44.0% from the arc while limiting the visiting Blazers to 3-for-22 (13.6%) from the three-point line and only 33.8% from the field. ASU Mid-South also won the battle of the boards 42-37 while assisting on 24 of 30 field goals.
Next up for the Greyhounds is a matchup with Parkland College (1-0), the #7-ranked team in the NJCAA Preseason Poll. The Greyhounds are just outside of the Top 20 with the 21st most votes in the poll. This is Parkland's fourth consecutive year in the Greyhound Tipoff Classic, and they are 7-0 entering tomorrow's game after defeating National Park College 87-72 in the first game of the tournament earlier today. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00pm following the noon game between National Park College and North Lake College.
