After being swept in the season series by North Arkansas College (22-4), the Lady Greyhounds (15-12) had to travel to Harrison, Arkansas, for the NJCAA Region 2 Championship Game. But the upset-minded underdogs were determined to overcome the odds and become only the second Region Champion in Lady Greyhound program history.
North Arkansas jumped out to an 8-1 lead to start the game, then were up 10-3, but the Lady Greyhounds did what they've done all season and never quit battling and hit three consecutive three-pointers to take a 12-10 lead.
Then after taking a 37-34 halftime lead, ASU Mid-South saw the Lady Pioneers fight back in the third quarter to take a 51-49 edge, but the Lady Greyhounds battled in the final period and tied the score at 57-57 and then again at 59-59 before getting defensive and outscoring the hosts 4-2 the rest of the way.
The Lady Greyhounds now travel to St. Louis Community College Saturday, March 4, for the NJCAA District P Championship. The winner of that game will advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Harrison, Arkansas, March 21-25.
