After capturing the Region Championship on the road a week ago, the Lady Greyhounds were hoping to repeat the feat at St. Louis Community College for the District title. The Lady Archers, however, were prepared to defend their home court, taking a 77-56 victory Saturday at St. Louis, Missouri.
Both teams went scoreless the first 5:24 of the game before the Lady Archers hit back-to-back three-pointers to take a 6-0 lead. But the Lady Greyhounds then scored 12 unanswered points, including a 3/4-court shot at the buzzer to take a 12-6 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Archers would come back in the second quarter by outscoring ASU Mid-South 20-13 to lead 26-25 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Lady Archers continued to shoot well and outscored the Lady Greyhounds 28-14 for a comfortable 54-39 lead. And despite ASU Mid-South putting up 17 fourth-quarter points, it just wasn't enough to overcome the home team.
Sable Greer led the Lady Greyhounds with 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists while sophomore Raven Morrow finished her career with 13 points. Haley Morgan scored six points to go with a team-high 10 rebounds and four steals, Ja'Brisha Hawkins scored five points to go with six rebounds and a team-high five assists, Alesha Penister finished with five points, and Summer Abram and Samantha Jackson chipped in two points each.
The Lady Greyhounds finish the season with a 15-13 record to post their first winning season in history and nearly double the record for single-season victories set by last season's record nine wins.
