Down 26-19 at the half, both teams exhibited tough defense that made every possession crucial as the game continued. But it was #9-ranked Jones College who kept ASU Mid-South at bay by taking a 54-39 advantage on the boards, forcing 20 Lady Greyhound turnovers, and hitting 14-of-18 free throws.
Both teams shot just under 32% from the field, but the Lady Greyhounds managed 3-of-13 three-pointers while holding Jones College to 0-of-17 from the arc.
Meleanna Williams led the Lady Greyhounds with 13 points and finished with 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists while Keiana Delaney scored 12 points to go with 6 rebounds. Aaliyah Lee led ASU Mid-South with 9 rebounds. For Jones College, Sakyia White finished with a rare 20-20 game, finishing with 23 points and 22 rebounds to lead the home team.
ASU Mid-South (7-7) is currently ranked #12 in the latest NJCAA Division II National Rankings with all seven losses to NJCAA Division I teams, four games of which involved teams appearing in the National Poll. The Lady Greyhounds return after the holiday break and travel to Itawamba Community College on Tuesday, January 4, before heading to Southern Arkansas University Tech on Saturday, January 8, to open Region 2 play.
