Nighthawks Rally Late to Escape ASU Mid-South with Comeback Win
WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — National Park College showed why it sits among the conference's top teams, erasing a double-digit halftime deficit to escape The Dog House with a hard-fought four-point victory over the ASU Mid-South Lady Greyhounds on Saturday.
Hosting one of the league's elite programs, the Lady Greyhounds came out determined to prove they belonged in that same conversation. ASU Mid-South controlled the tempo early, attacking on both ends of the floor and building momentum throughout the first half. That strong start paid off as the Greyhounds took a commanding 16-point lead into the halftime break.
The second half, however, told a much different story. National Park emerged from the locker room with renewed energy and urgency, outscoring ASU Mid-South by 10 points in the third quarter to cut the deficit to just six heading into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Nighthawks' full-court press began to take its toll. National Park forced a string of turnovers and quickly converted them into easy baskets, slowly flipping the script and seizing control down the stretch. ASU Mid-South struggled to find an answer as the lead slipped away.
Down four with the ball and just under five seconds remaining, the Greyhounds had one last chance. Shatalya Boyland got a clean look from the corner, but the shot wouldn't fall as time expired, allowing National Park to walk away with the comeback victory.
Landrey Richardson led the Lady Nighthawks with 18 points, while Ta'Keyla Williamson added 13. Aaliyah Hollins and Khayla Garrett each chipped in 10 points in the balanced scoring effort.
ASU Mid-South was paced by a game-high 25 points from Shatalya Boyland, who carried the offense throughout the night. Serenity Austin finished with 15 points, and Alana Whiten added 13 in the loss.
With the setback, the Lady Greyhounds fall to 5-15 overall and 2-4 in conference play. ASU Mid-South will look to regroup on the road Wednesday, January 28, when they travel to North Arkansas College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
