Greyhounds Add Pair from Mississippi
Mississippi post players Jerell Bernard and Ladarius Mason have signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball at Mid-South Community College.
Mid-South Community College has signed Mississippi post players Jerell Bernard and Ladarius Mason to National Letters of Intent to play basketball for the Greyhounds, announced head coach Chris Parker.
Both Bernard and Mason helped lead Horn Lake High School to a 22-7 record and a second-place finish in 6A Region 1 before capturing the District 2 Championship and advancing to the quarterfinals of the state tournament. The Eagles finished the season ranked #12 overall in the state of Mississippi according to MaxPreps.com.
Mason (6'6", 225 lbs.) served as team captain and averaged 7 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists from the low post position. He was a four-year letterman for the Eagles and instrumental in the success of one of the top programs in North Mississippi.
"Ladarius has been here since his freshman year and was an integral part of the program," said Horn Lake head coach Tori Harris. "He is a cerebral post who thinks the game and will be sorely missed."
Bernard (6'6", 210 lbs.) averaged 6 points, 6 rebounds and 1 block per game. He lettered as a junior and senior after a growth spurt saw him go from 6'1" to 6'5" between his sophomore and junior year.
"Jerell is a high energy post who can really run the floor," said Harris. "He got a late start with any real playing time, and his best basketball is in front of him."
Parker likes each player for different reasons, and sees vast potential in both prospects.
"First and foremost, these two are high character kids who have proven they can do the work in the classroom," said Parker. "In addition, they come from a very successful program with a highly successful coach, and those are intanglibles that you cannot teach."
"We feel that both of these young men will have the opportunity to have a lot of success in our system," Parker continued. "I feel Ladarius will thrive in our offense because he thinks the game and is a post who can pass. Jerell is very athletic and very coachable, and I believe the sky is the limit for him once he realizes all that he can do."
