With a new season and new name, it took only one weekend for the ASU Mid-South Greyhounds to set a new record by starting the season 2-0 for the first time in program history.
"We have started the last two seasons 1-1 after going 0-2 the first three years, so this is another exciting milestone for our program," said Greyhound head coach Chris Parker.
The home team opened the season with Crowley's Ridge College JV and took a 57-36 halftime lead on the way to a 109-61 victory. All 11 Greyhounds scored at least 4 points with freshman Teverette Cain leading the way with 15 points. Freshman Jerell Bernard pulled down 12 rebounds to go with six points, and freshman LaQuan Davie from Marion dished out six assists while scoring 12 points.
Sophomore Joe'Randle Toliver (pictured left) finished with the most complete game as he tallied 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.
In Saturday's matchup, the Greyhounds played even with Blue Mountain College JV until starting to pull away halfway through the first half on the way to a 46-24 halftime lead. ASU Mid-South leaned on their post play throughout as they ended up with a 93-62 win to go 2-0 on the young season.
Sophomore Tasmania Jones (pictured right) led the way with a double-double (23 points, 11 rebounds), and sophomore Trent Steen put in 21 points to go with nine boards. Cain chipped in 14 points, and Toliver again produced a quality stat line with eight points, nine assists, five rebounds and three steals.
The Greyhounds next turn their attention to Northwest Mississippi whom they split with last year after taking an exciting overtime victory at The Dog House. The women start the action this Thursday at 5:00pm followed by the men at 7:00pm.
