The host team used three five-man platoons that substituted for each other at a maddening pace to keep up a constant full-court trap while launching three-pointers at breath-taking speed to keep the Greyhounds off-guard most of the game.
But as the game wore on, ASU Mid-South turned a 52-51 halftime deficit into an eight-point lead with less than five minutes to go in the game. However, Rhodes College would not go down easily as they charged back to take a 100-99 lead with 53.4 seconds left.
On the ensuing possession, the Lynx dropped back into a 2-3 zone for the first time in the game, but the Greyhounds patiently moved the ball around until Trevor Banks found K.J. Patrick in the paint for the eventual game-winner with 34.1 seconds left. The Greyhounds then forced a turnover and Banks hit one of two free throws for the final count.
The Greyhounds overcame 19 three-pointers on an astounding 64 attempts from the hosts while forcing 36 turnovers in the lightning-paced game. Terrikous Smith led the Greyhounds with 17 points while Patrick finished with 16 and Banks scored 15. Montee Randle finished with seven assists and three steals to go with nine points, and Ladarius Mason led the team with seven rebounds.
The Greyhounds finish out their six-game road trip this weekend in St. Louis as they play Missouri Baptist JV Friday night and are at St. Louis Community College Saturday before the Thanksgiving break. They return to The Dog House on Thursday, December 1, as both teams host Itawamba Community College before welcoming Rhema College on December 3.
