Overcoming 20 turnovers and an abysmal shooting night from the arc, the Greyhounds found a way to get an 80-70 victory over Itawamba Community College Thursday at Fulton, Mississippi.
Leading 38-30 at the half, the Greyhounds fought off an Indian threat that saw their lead shrink to five points in the second half, but a 55-38 advantage on the glass, including 21 offensive rebounds, helped ASU Mid-South secure the road win. The Greyhounds shot 44.1% from the field but a season-low 3-of-16 (18.8%) from the three-point line and only 60.7% from the free throw line as they finished up a slate that included four games in seven days.
The Greyhounds used balanced scoring for the victory as Montee Randle finished with a double-double (13 points, 13 rebounds), Dee Montgomery scored 14 points to go with five assists, Terrandus Smith put in 13 points and pulled down seven boards, and Trevor Banks finished with 10 points and six boards. K.J. Patrick and Terrikous Smith both chipped in 9 points each.
ASU Mid-South (12-4) has one more game on the road Tuesday at Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee, before returning to The Dog House Saturday, January 20, in the first of two NJCAA Region 2 games against North Arkansas College.
