Missing four games that were postponed due to weather, the Greyhounds returned to the court for the first time since February 8 -- about 2 1/2 weeks -- and began NJCAA Region 2 play with a 101-72 victory at South Arkansas Community College in El Dorado, Arkansas.
The host Stars came out shooting as they took an early lead before the Greyhounds found their touch to lead 48-32 at the half behind 14 points from Sam Smith, 9 from Kevin Fulton and 8 from Kylon McCullough. But the Greyhounds broke open the game to start the second half and coasted to the 29-point victory.
ASU Mid-South (7-0, 1-0) shot nearly 61% from the field and 37.5% from the three-point line in the win while taking a 60-28 advantage in points in the paint. However, the Greyhounds also finished with 23 turnovers and gave up 19 offensive rebounds which the Stars used to stay in the game early.
Sam Smith led the Greyhounds with 25 points and 12 rebounds while Kevin Fulton scored 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Jaaron Harriott and Spencer Simes both finished with 11 points each while Kylon McCullough and J.T. Smith chipped in 10 points apiece with Smith dishing out a game-high 5 assists.
The Greyhounds, currently ranked #3 in the nation, return to the friendly confines of The Dog House Saturday as they host UA Cossatot in another Region 2 game before hitting the road again Monday to travel to St. Louis Community College.
