The Greyhounds return three starters from a 14-12 team who lost in the NJCAA Region 2 Championship Game after an injury-plagued season. Headlining the returners is 6'9" forward Christian Thompson (Lonoke, AR), who averaged 10.7 points and 6.8 rebounds while shooting 51.4% from the field, and 6'2" point guard Jailen Anderson (Jackson, TN), who averaged 8.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. The third starter is 6'8" forward Braxtyn McCuien (Mayflower, AR) who averaged 8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds while leading the team in three-point field goal percentage (39.5%) and three-pointers made per game despite missing 10 games due to injury. Other returners include 6'5" forward T.J. Stewart (Jacksonville, AR) who averaged 5.9 points while leading the team in field goal percentage (57.8%) and 6'4" utility player O.J. Marrs (Wynne, AR) who averaged 5.0 points and 3.2 rebounds while leading the team in charges taken.
Seven newcomers will make their debut in a Greyhound uniform this season headlined by two guards, Jesse Washington (6'1", Jonesboro, AR) and Chris Martin (6'0", Memphis, TN). Washington is a two-time All-State guard who won consecutive state titles at Jonesboro High School and was named MVP in the state's senior All-Star game this summer. Martin was a top 10 scorer in the Memphis-area while earning All-Metro honors at traditional power Southwind High School.
Another 6'1" guard, Kyron Dock (Rockford, IL) looks to see time as well after spending his senior year at Houston-area Hightower High School in Texas. And high school teammates Je'marion Westbrook (6'7") and Markese Bolden (6'1") join the Greyhounds from nearby Lee High School in Marianna after winning a state title their junior year before getting beat in the semifinals as seniors. The lone transfer on the roster is 6'5" guard Westin Pickell who comes to ASU Mid-South after spending his freshman year at Arkansas Tech University, and the Greyhounds also bring in the biggest recruit in program history as 6'11" Omareion Jefferson joins the program from nearby Marion High School (AR) who will redshirt the 2022-23 season.
The Greyhounds are playing a full 30-game schedule with the first home games being in the Greyhound Tip-Off Classic November 4-5, and the team plays familiar non-conference foes Northwest Mississippi, Dyersburg State, Southwest Tennessee and St. Louis while adding Jones College (MS), new Region 2 member Shorter College (AR) and a classic at Mineral Area College (MO) to the mix this season. Region 2 play begins in January with 10 region games that conclude with the Region Tournament held at home sites until the championship game March 6 at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.
