Down 34-30 at the half, ASU Mid-South needed every basket to fight off a tough Cobras squad that shot 47.5% from the field and 37.5% from the three-point line. The Greyhounds did open up a 10-point lead, 63-53 at the 9:36 mark on a Jesse Washington three-pointer, but Parkland fought back to narrow the lead to 72-69 until Braxtyn McCuien hit a three-pointer at the 4:21 mark to keep the Cobras at bay. A Cobra trey again cut the lead to 75-72 with 3:15 left to go, but Kyrin Dock hit a three-pointer with 2:48 remaining to stretch the lead back to 6 points. The Greyhounds would then get a stop before McCuien hit another trey at the 2:03 mark to stretch the lead to 9 points, and the Cobras did not get closer the rest of the way.
Jesse Washington led all scorers with 27 points on 8-of-12 shooting including 7-of-9 from three-point range. Kyrin Dock scored 17 points with a perfect 5-of-5 outing behind the arc, and Braxtyn McCuien finished with 14 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting. Christian Thompson scored 11 points to go with a game-high 8 rebounds, and Jailen Anderson chipped in 8 points to go with 7 boards and a game-high 7 assists. Overall the Greyhounds shot 45.2% from the field, 59.3% (16-of-27) from the three-point line, and 81.3% from the free throw line.
ASU Mid-South (1-1) next faces Northwest Mississippi Community College (1-1) in the final game of the Greyhound Tipoff Classic Saturday at 2pm before hosting Arkansas Tech JV Monday at 6:00pm.
