ASU Mid-South got 20 of 6'9" center Christian Thompson's game-high 29 points in the first half to take a 42-37 lead at the break, then made 10 three-pointers in the second half to hold off the stubborn Rangers. Northwest trailed by 8 points, 63-55 at the 12:36 mark of the second half after a Chris Martin free throw, but a run tied the game 75-75 at the 6:20 mark. But Jesse Washington and Kyrin Dock answered with consecutive three-pointers on the ensuing possessions to give the Greyhounds a lead they would not relinquish again. The Rangers hit 1-of-2 free throws to cut it to 83-79 at the 3:15 mark, but the Greyhounds responded with a Jailen Anderson three-pointer with 2:30 left and a Thompson layup in transition to take an 88-79 lead with 2:16 remaining and ASU Mid-South went 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the final 31.4 seconds to claim the victory.
The Greyhounds shot 52.9% from the field, 46.2% from the three-point line and 73.7% from the free throw line while outrebounding Northwest 33-29. Besides Thompson's game-high 29 points on 14-of-18 shooting, Jesse Washington finished with 19 points while shooting 5-of-9 from the arc, Kyrin Dock scored 18 points on 3-of-3 shooting from the three-point line, Braxtyn McCuien scored 13 ponts to go with a game-high 12 rebounds, and Jailen Anderson chipped in 14 points to go with a game-high 8 assists.
Next up for the Greyhounds is another home game Monday against Arkansas Tech JV at 6:00pm before hitting the road to play Dyersburg State Community College Wednesday at Dyersburg, Tennessee.
