The Greyhounds recorded 27 turnovers and shot just 1-of-12 from the three-point line in falling 69-59 to the Southwest Tennessee Community College Saluqis at Verties Sails Gymnasium in Memphis.
Much like their previous game on November 16 in which ASU Mid-South won by 18 points, the Greyhounds led from the start and were up 12-11 until a technical foul was called on O.J. Marrs with 12:49 remaining which gave the Saluqis their first lead, 13-11. Southwest then hit consecutive three-pointers and a bucket in the paint for an 8-0 run in the next two minutes to lead 21-11, and took their largest lead, 30-19, on two free throws at the 5:02 mark. But the Greyhounds finished the half with a 9-4 run to pull within 34-28 at the break. In the second half, the Greyhounds continued to struggle with turnovers, giving the Saluqis their largest lead, 52-38, with 11:21 left in the contest. But ASU Mid-South made a final push to narrow the lead to 54-49 with 8:16 remaining on a Kyron Dock acrobatic layup, but Dock was injured on the play and went to the bench the rest of the game. Southwest would then take advantage of Greyhound turnovers, and ASU Mid-South could get no closer the rest of the game.
The Greyhounds' 27 turnovers is the most this season and gives them 52 turnovers in the last two games. They shot 42.6% from the field to Southwest's 45.8%, but the Saluqis connected 8-of-19 three-pointers (42.1%) to offset ASU Mid-South's 43-24 dominance on the boards.
Christian Thompson led the Greyhounds with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting and 8 rebounds while Braxtyn McCuien also pulled down 8 boards. Kyrin Dock scored 9 points before leaving the game, and Jailen Anderson scored 7 points. No other Greyhound scored more than 4 points.
The Greyhounds next host new NJCAA Region 2 member Shorter College Monday at 7:30pm at The Dog House following the women's game at 5:30pm.
