Greyhounds Get Past Shorter in Second Half
The Greyhounds used a 53-point second half to take an 85-71 victory over the Shorter College Bulldogs in their first-ever meeting Monday at The Dog House in West Memphis, Arkansas.
The Greyhounds used a 53-point second half to take an 85-71 victory over the Shorter College Bulldogs in their first-ever meeting Monday at The Dog House in West Memphis, Arkansas.
Shorter used a 13-4 run in the last 4:11 of the first half to take a 34-32 halftime lead. Then in the second half, the Bulldogs went on a 9-0 run to lead 48-40 with 13:42 remaining in the game. But ASU Mid-South would regain the lead on a Jailen Anderson 17-foot jump shot, 56-55 at the 9:11 mark, and the Greyhounds would not trail the rest of the way.
ASU Mid-South shot 47.1% from the field to the Bulldog's 44.4%, but Shorter was 6-of-14 (42.9%) from the three-point line while the Greyhounds managed just 5-of-17 (29.4%). ASU Mid-South won the battle of the boards, 44-32, and forced 22 turnovers while recording 17.
Jesse Washington led all scorers with 23 points, Jailen Anderson scored 19, Christian Thompson tallied 16 points and 6 rebounds, and Je'marion Westbrook finished with his first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Greyhounds (10-6) next enter NJCAA Region 2 play this Saturday as they travel to play South Arkansas Community College (6-5) in El Dorado. They return to The Dog House Thursday, January 19, to take on Southern Arkansas Tech University with the women tipping off the action at 5:30pm followed by the men at 7:30pm.
