For the first time in school history, three Greyhound teammates have chosen to sign with the same school after finishing their Greyhound careers.
For the first time in school history, three Greyhound teammates have chosen to sign with the same school after finishing their Greyhound careers. Christian Thompson, Jailen Anderson, and Braxtyn McCuien have all signed with the Christian Brothers University Buccaneers, an NCAA Division II school located in Memphis, Tennessee. CBU is a member of the Gulf South Conference and coached by John Reilly who is in his fifth season at the school.
Thompson, the first to sign with the Buccaneers, started 36 of 36 games and averaged 15.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while shooting 58.9% from the field and 70.2% from the free throw line. The 6'9", 230-pound center from Lonoke, Arkansas, was named a First Team All-Region selection as well as to the NJCAA All-National Tournament team.
Anderson, a 6'2", 200-pound point guard, used his explosive athleticism to average 12.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting 46.2% from the field, 29.5% from the three-point line, and 69.5% from the free throw line. The Jackson, Tennessee, native was an All-Region Second Team selection was the only Greyhound to start all 37 games and led the team in both assists (4.2) and steals (1.3).
McCuien, a 6'8", 225-pound forward from Mayflower, Arkansas, started 35 of 36 games and averaged 11.7 points, a team-leading 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 53.2% from the field, an outstanding 37.5% from the three-point line, and a team-leading 75.0% from the free throw line. He is also the first Greyhound to earn NJCAA All-Academic honors after posting a 4.0 GPA as a freshman, and is expected to be named the first two-time Academic All-American in school history when the NJCAA announces the 2022-23 teams in July.
The three Buccaneer signees led the Greyhounds to a runner-up finish in the region as freshmen before winning a Region 2 Championship, Region 2 Tournament Championship, Central Plains District Championship, and earning the program's second trip to the NJCAA National Tournament where the Greyhounds placed 8th in the nation after being seeded 14th out of 16 National Tournament teams.
