The MSCC Lady Greyhounds saw a series of ebbs and flows during their game on the road against Northwest Mississippi on Monday night.
In the end, an early deficit was too much to overcome as MSCC dropped a 10 point decision to fall to 1-5 on the season.
"We played really hard tonight. Kierra Adams had 28 points and 12 rebounds but we didn't really get anyone else to step up and score other than Rachell Hughes," MSCC Head Coach Kimberly Ezell said after the game.
Hughes scored 11 to compliment Adams' monster game, but MSCC couldn't get over the hump in a tough environment.
"Defensively we played very well, maybe the best we've seen all season. We continued to have trouble with the press offensively though and we turned it over 31 times tonight," Ezell added.
Rebounding was also an issue for the Lady Greyhounds as they got out-boarded 62-45 and Northwest Mississippi got a number of second chance opportunities to keep the visitors at bay.
After going down 12 points early on, MSCC rallied back to take a 10 point lead of their own a few times in the second half, but couldn't hold on as the energy they exerted during the comeback eventually disappeared.
Turnovers and rebounds aside, the most disappointing aspect for MSCC may have been their 3-14 shooting from three-point range. It's even more glaring when you consider the game that Adams had in the paint.
"We got some good looks from distance tonight, but couldn't knock them down. We also shot 16-23 from the free throw line and that hurt us as well. We're still working hard though and our girls still believe in what we're doing," Ezell said of her team's mindset after another difficult loss.
The Lady Greyhounds will be back in action at home on Monday, December 16, against Southwest Tennessee at 5:00pm with the men's game to follow.
