Foul trouble and an ongoing struggle with conditioning issues sunk the MSCC Lady Greyhounds last night in Little Rock against Arkansas Baptist.
MSCC (5-12 overall) dropped a 104-85 decision on the road last night.
The Lady Greyhounds saw sophomore forward Kierra Adams and guard Sasha Giles picked up three fouls in the first half, leaving MSCC down 52-28 at the break.
Adams would pick up her fourth foul early in the second half.
"I've never coached a team where two players got three fouls that early in the first half," MSCC head coach Andy Stoglin. "Without that, I think we're right in the game, but that's not what happened."
Stoglin also admitted that his team is still woefully out-of-shape after an extended Christmas break, riding a 1-4 streak since a four-game winning streak in December.
"We just can't get into game shape," said Stoglin. "I'm going to try to get an extra hour of practice coming up. That Christmas break killed us because I told our girls to go get some shots up at a gym or something while they were off, but it's hard to stick to that."
While Stoglin wasn't happy with his team's execution against Arkansas Baptist, he was impressed with the squad that he saw in Little Rock.
"They were the biggest team we've seen yet," added Stoglin. "I do think that we would have had a chance in the game if Kierra hadn't gotten four fouls early on. We're a different team with her on the court."
MSCC is off this weekend, but will return to the court on Tuesday, January 27 to play at Dyersburg State Community College.
The Lady Greyhounds will return home on Saturday, February 14 for a crucial contest against North Arkansas College. Tip is scheduled for 3 p.m.
