Tied at 29-29 at the half, the Lady Greyhounds trailed the host team throughout the third quarter and had to hit a shot at the buzzer to pull within 46-45. But after St. Louis hit their first shot of the final period, ASU Mid-South went on a 10-0 run until a Lady Archer free throw pulled them within 6 points, 55-49. But the game was far from over as St. Louis came back with a run of their own to tie the score at 58-58 with 32.9 seconds remaining. Kaylan Larry was fouled on the ensuing play and knocked down 1 of 2 free throws for a Lady Greyhound 59-58 lead with 28-3 seconds left. But the St. Louis jumper was off the mark and the Lady Greyhounds escaped with the win.
Meleanna Williams led the way with 17 points and 6 rebounds while Cierra Penn scored 10 points with 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks. Aaliyah Lee scored 8 points in just 16 minutes before fouling out, and still managed to college 10 rebounds.
ASU Mid-South (11-0) is off to the best start by any team in school history and currently ranked #8 in the latest NJCAA National Rankings. They next travel to Region 2-rival North Arkansas College, currently ranked #18, this Saturday in Harrison. Tipoff is scheduled at noon and will be followed by the men's game.
