The first half was a defensive battle as ASU Mid-South took a 25-17 lead into the break, but the game heated up in the second half as the teams played even in the third quarter before the Lady Nighthawks staged an upset bid. Leading 48-41 with five minutes left in the game, the Lady Greyhounds failed to score on five straight possessions as National Park narrowed the gap to 48-47 with 2:10 remaining. But Aaliyah Lee hit two free throws at the 2:03 mark and two more at the 1:41 mark to keep ASU Mid-South in front. Then Alindavia Lockett got free for a layup at the 1:12 mark, Arrianna Faulks hit 1-of-2 free throws to go up 55-53, and Meleanna Williams hit both free throws with 20.1 seconds remaining to give the Lady Greyhounds a 57-53 cushion before National Park hit a bucket for the final count.
Aaliyah Lee and Jaylia Reed led the scoring with 11 points each while Keiana Delaney finished with 10 points and Meleanna Williams and Arrianna Faulks chipped in 9 points each. The Lady Greyhounds shot just 29.6% from the field and 23.8% from the three-point line and committed 28 turnovers, but won the battle of the boards, 44-21, and had 13 steals.
ASU Mid-South moves to 9-7 overall and 2-0 in NJCAA Region 2 play and is currently ranked #11 in the latest NJCAA National Rankings. Next up is a trip to UA Cossatot before making up a postponed game at 14th-ranked SAU Tech on Thursday, January 27.
