Lady Greyhounds Get Key Road Win at SAU Tech
The Lady Greyhounds needed overtime to overcome a horrific shooting night but came away with a 59-51 Region 2 comeback win on the road over the Southern Arkansas University Tech Lady Rockets Thursday in East Camden, Arkansas.
The Lady Greyhounds needed overtime to overcome a horrific shooting night but came away with a 59-51 Region 2 comeback win on the road over the Southern Arkansas University Tech Lady Rockets Thursday in East Camden, Arkansas.
Down 30-15 at the half, the Lady Greyhounds pulled within six points in the third quarter, then battled back to tie the game in the fourth as Jaylia Reed hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime. Then in the extra period, the Lady Greyhounds hit 6 free throws before Keiana Delaney picked off a pass and scored on an uncontested layup as the Lady Rockets were outscored 12-4 in overtime.
Despite shooting just 30.4% from the field and 12.5% from the arc, ASU Mid-South held SAU Tech to 28.6% shooting from the field and 3-of-12 from the arc while battling them even on the boards, 49-49, and forcing 22 turnovers.
Jaylia Reed and Meleanna Williams finished with 16 points each while Williams and Keiana Delaney each pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Delaney led the team with 5 assists, as she and Haven Cooper both finished with 8 points.
The Lady Greyhounds are nationally-ranked at #7 and now 11-7 for the season and 4-0 in Region 2 play but host a North Arkansas College squad that is ranked #15 in the country with an identical 4-0 region record and 13-3 overall. Tipoff time Saturday is 2:00pm and will be followed by the men's game.
