One poor outing and the season came to an end for the Lady Greyhounds as they fell to Southern Arkansas University Tech in the Region 2 Tournament semifinals Sunday at Harding University. ASU Mid-South ends the season with a 17-10 record after finishing the year ranked #16 in the final NJCAA National Rankings.
Sunday's game was simply one of those nights as the second-seeded Lady Greyhounds shot just 32.7% from the field, 50% from the free throw line, were outrebounded 44-35 and committed 24 turnovers to the third-seeded Lady Rockets' 16. Even so the Lady Greyhounds trailed by just 4 points at the half, and after playing even in the third quarter were then outscored by 16 points in the final period to take a 67-47 decision. ASU Mid-South had taken the first two meetings this season against SAU Tech with a 59-51 win in East Camden on January 27 and an 84-63 victory at home on February 6.
No Lady Greyhounds scored in double figures as Aaliyah Lee and Alindavia Lockett led ASU Mid-South with 8 points each. Lockett also led with 6 rebounds while Meleanna Williams dished out a team-high 4 assists. Lady Greyhound leading scorer Jaylia Reed was held to just 3 points in 32 minutes.
This is the second season in a row the Lady Greyhounds have finished in the Top 20 of the National Rankings after advancing to the NJCAA National Tournament last season and finishing seventh in the nation with a 25-2 overall record.
