The Lady Greyhounds fought hard to the end, but ultimately dropped their season opener 64-50 against Jones College, Thursday night at The Dog House.
The Lady Greyhounds fought hard to the end, but ultimately dropped their season opener 64-50 against Jones College, Thursday night at The Dog House.
While only shooting 26.7% from the field, the Lady Greyhounds turned to their defense to give them a spark causing 17 turnoveres, and scoring 17 points off them, and outscoring the Lady Bobcats 11-4 in transition.
Going into halftime only down by 4, coach Manuel had to feel good about where they were. Unfortuntely, Jones came out and won the 3rd quarter 16-10 and did not look back. Although, the Lady Greyhounds didn't give up the Lady Bobcats were just too much inside out scoring the Lady Greyhounds 44-20 inside the paint.
The Lady Greyhounds were led by Sophomore guard Ayanna Rutledge who scored 19 points and was 4/8 from 3, and also brought down 9 rebounds. London Robinson and Jakiyah Bell who both chipped in with 10 points.
Head coach Tysia Manuel had to say this after the game, ""I feel like we've seen a lot of growth over the last couple weeks as a team. We had an off night shooting, but I know the shooting will come with the time put in the gym. Also, I've seen a lot of positive influences from our girls constantly picking each other up. Film is going to show a lot of easy fixes that will make big differences moving forward."
Next up for the Lady Greyhounds is Northeast Mississippi, as they travel to Booneville on November 7th. Tip-off is set for 5:30.
