In the second day of the Lady Greyhound Tip-Off Classic, the Cowgirls of Connor State defeated your hometown Greyhounds by a final score of 78-51.
With a noon tip-off the Cowgirls and Lady Greyhounds got off to a slow start with the Cowgirls taking a 12-9 lead after the first quarter. It didn't take long after that as Connors State would go on to score 26 points in the second quarter and hold the Lady Greyhounds to just 5 total points in the period. Unfortunately for the Lady Greyhounds, the Cowgirls would force more Greyhounds turnovers that shots in the second quarter.
ASU Mid-South wasn't going to go out with a fight as they went toe to toe with the Cowgirls in the third quarter, but the Cowgirls were still able to win the third quarter by 6. However, things would eventually turn around for the Lady Greyhounds as they were able to win the fourth quarter and build on it heading into their future games. The Lady Greyhounds would go on to shoot just 27.8% from the field, while the Cowgirls would shoot 39.1%. Both teams would end up committing 25 turnovers, but it was the Cowgirls who were able to turn those turnovers into points as they outscored the Lady Greyhounds 26-10 in points off turnovers.
The Lady Greyhounds had three players in double digits as Jakiyah Bell, Ayanna Rutledge, and Charalyn Rester all scored 14. Bell also added 9 rebounds with 4 steals.
Lady Greyhounds are back in action Monday, as they travel to Clarksdale, Mississippi to take on Coahoma. Tip-Off is set for 5:30pm.
