It was a slow start for ASU Mid-South as they struggled to get going early. Unfortunately, that would be the case of the game for the Lady Greyhounds. Playing their 3rd game in 5 days with only 6 players suited up is a tough stretch for any team. The shots that normally fall just didn't fall for them Monday night. The Shooting Stars took advantage of it and lived up the shooting part of their name as they would connect on five 3 pointers in the first quarter helping them get out to a 10 point lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The Lady Greyhounds wouldn't give up which has been the story of their season. A team who is giving everything they can even with small team. Mid-South would use that aggression to help them go to the free throw line a number of times in the 2nd quarter to help them outscore the Stars by 2 cutting the lead to 8 heading into the locker rooms for halftime.
The Lady Greyhounds would pick up right where they left off being aggressive and getting to the foul line shooting 10 free throws in the quarter. That was all that was going for the Lady Greyhounds in the period as they would commit 5 of their 9 turnovers in the 3rd quarter. South Ark cooled down from 3, but managed to shoot just under 50% from the field in the quarter pushing their lead to 13 heading into the final quarter. The Lady Greyhounds would make a run and cut the lead to single digits, but in the end it was just too much for them to overcome.
ASU Mid-South was led by Ayanna Rutledge's 21 points. London Robinson scored 15 going 9/10 from the free throw line, and El Dorado's own Charalyn Rester scored 12. Esther Kwagala pulled down a game high 16 rebounds.
The Lady Greyhounds host SAU Tech on Thursday, February 1 at The Dog House in West Memphis. Tip-off is set for 5:30.
