With Shaquille Culbreath and Kaylon Tappin leading the way, the Greyhounds overcame a hostile environment to pick up an 86-71 win over West Kentucky Community and Technical College in Paducah, Kentucky.
The two Greyhound guards combined for 46 points and were a perfect 12 for 12 from the free throw line in the second half to put away the host team. Culbreath scored 15 of his game-high 26 points in the second stanza while Tappin put in 12 of his 20 points in the first half as the Greyhounds took a 46-41 lead into the break.
But in the second half MSCC got defensive, hitting the glass and limiting scoring opportunities to hold West Kentucky to only 30 points. Justin Harris played a key role scoring 11 points before leaving the game with an ankle injury early in the second frame. But Trent Steen and DeShawn McGowan took care of the inside scoring ten and seven points, respectively.
The Greyhounds also helped themselves with a stellar 26 of 29 performance from the free throw line (89.7%) to overcome getting flagged for 24 fouls in the game.
The victory moves the Greyhounds to 7-4 on the season as they travel Monday to Paragould, Arkansas, for a matchup against Crowley's Ridge JV with tipoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
