The 19th-ranked Greyhounds (4-2) needed that to win after a furious Ranger rally that saw the home team come back from 24 points down early in the second half to take their first lead of the game with just 8.1 seconds remaining. But Northwest was hit with their second technical foul on the ensuing inbounds for reaching over the baseline and touching the ball, and Jalen Lynn hit the free throw to tie the score.
The Greyhounds then got the ball to Lynn who raced the length of the court and put up a floater from the left side that just missed and came off the opposite side of the rim, but White was there to grab the rebound and was fouled going up on the putback as the buzzer sounded. After a lengthy delay which put 0.3 seconds back on the clock, White's first free throw missed the mark. But with all of Howard Coliseum making noise, White calmly hit nothing but net on the second free throw, and the Rangers desperation attempt from three-quarter court never had a chance.
The Greyhounds were out of the gate fast and looked poised to cruise to victory after racing to a 42-24 lead at the half while holding Northwest to 24.2% shooting. For the game, the Greyhounds outshot the hosts 46.4% to 33.3% from the field, hit 15-of-22 free throws and controlled the boards 50-36. But against a stifling press the entire second half, the Greyhounds committed an astounding 24 second-half turnovers -- 33 for the game -- and were forced to adapt personnel that helped the Ranger comeback. Starting point guard Shaheed Halk did not travel due to a family illness, guard Brien Kimmons went down with an injury in the first half, and starting guards Caleb Henry and Ike Moore both fouled out in the second half, forcing forward Zach Byrd to move to guard and White taking Byrd's place on the floor.
Jalen Lynn led the Greyhounds with 22 points while Kamron Rose recorded his fifth double-double in six games with 16 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Treay Jamison chipped in 10 points, White pulled down a career-high 10 boards and Ike Moore dished out a team-high 5 assists.
The win was only the second in school history at Northwest Mississippi since the program began in 2010, recording a 95-91 win in 2013, and the first win over the Rangers since a home victory on January 26, 2017.
