The Greyhounds (10-3) got season-high performances of 28 points from Jalen Lynn and 19 from Shaheed Halk to take a 94-86 victory over Northeast Mississippi Community College (10-2) in Booneville.
In a battle between two teams receiving votes in their respective national polls, ASU Mid-South overcame 19 turnovers and 22 Tiger offensive rebounds by limiting Northeast to 40% shooting from the field while connecting on 48.5% for the game.
Spotting the Tigers an 8-0 lead to start the game, the Greyhounds fought back behind 19 first-half points from Lynn to lead 47-38 at the half. The Greyhounds picked up where they left off after halftime, stretching the lead to as much as 18 points, but the Tigers clawed their way back and trailed by 7 on two occasions. However, Shaheed Halk continued to find the basket, scoring 12 second-half points, and the Greyhounds helped themselves down the stretch at the free throw line - hitting over 78% for the game - to get the road win.
In addition to the scoring of Lynn and Halk, Caleb Henry -- a Northeast Mississippi transfer -- scored 11 points for ASU Mid-South, while Christian White and Kamari Marrs chipped in 9 points each. Jalen Sasser pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, and Halk dished out a game-high 7 assists.
The Greyhounds continue their road swing with Saturday's game at Southern Arkansas University Tech in Camden. SAU Tech (9-7) is in their first year as an NJCAA Region 2 program, but already has wins against established programs such as Coahoma CC (MS), Northwest Mississippi CC, Kilgore College (TX), Three Rivers CC (MO), and Copiah-Lincoln (MS). Tipoff is scheduled at 2:00pm.
