Dock's Near Triple Double Leads Greyhounds

Sophomore guard Kyrin Dock's near triple double lead the Greyhounds to their second win over Northwest Mississippi in a span of 5 days. This match was held at Howard Coliseum in Senatobia, Mississippi where the Greyhounds brought home a 75-61 victory.

"After everything that happened trying to get on the road, I couldn't be any more proud of how our guys handled that adversity and played the way they did. I can't give enough credit to coach Oakley at Northwest for agreeing to push the start time back 10-15 minutes for allowing our guys a little extra time once we settled in. We were sluggish to start and took a while to get our legs under us, but the way our guys came out in the second half was amazing. They killed us on the offensive boards in and second chance points in the first half, but we were able to rebound and defend much better there in the second half. To hold a high powered offense like that in the 60's not only once, but twice says a lot about how good our defense can be. Once we're able to start hitting our open looks more consistenly, I can't wait to see what these guys do. They are a blast to coach, and when they're out there playing the way they did in the second half it's so much fun to watch." Head coach Cody Hastings had to say after the game.

Je'Marion Westbrook started the scoring after hitting a 3 at the top of the key. Offensive rebounds would keep the game tight as the Rangers collected 7 offensive rebounds and had 11 second chance points in the first half. Both teams would keep exchanging blows in the first half, as the Greyhounds took their largest lead of the half with 2:37 left to go on a Je'Marion Westbrook fast break lay-up. Westbrook would go on to miss the free throw, but the Rangers would end the first half on a 6-1 run to tie the game at 31 heading into the locker room.

Both teams started out slow in the second half before the Greyhounds started to find their stride. The Greyhounds would hold the Rangers to only 34.9% shooting from the field in the second half, using their defense to lead to easy offensive opportunites. Mid-South would take the lead with 15:47 off of 2 free-throws from Samuel Chapin and would not lose the lead for the rest of the night. The Greyhounds would take their largest lead of the night after a Kyrin Dock drive and dish to Chapin for a wide open 3 to give them a 14 point lead with 4:23 left to go in the game.

The Greyhounds would outscore the Rangers in the final half 44-30 claiming the 14 point win. The Greyhounds were led by sophomore guard Kyrin Dock who had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists. Other key contributors were Je'Marion Westbrook who had another double double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Jesse Washington had 15 and Samuel Chapin had 14.

With the win, the Greyhounds move to 2-2 on the season. They are back in action Tuesday, November 14th as they host Central Baptist College JV. Tip-off is set for 6:00pm.
