The Greyhounds would just out to a quick 9-1 lead in the first 2:24 of the game, however the Mustangs would not go away easily. The Greyhounds pushed their lead up to 11 just under 11 minutes remaining in the half before CBC came storming back on a run of their own taking their first lead of the game with 7:32 left in the half. Ultimately, the Greyhounds would go on to take a 47-39 lead heading into the half.
The second half would start off with both teams trading baskets for the first five minutes of the half. Kanaan DeBerry came in and gave a quick sense of life in the second half scoring all 7 points in less than a 4 minute span. The Greyhounds would start to insert their dominance as they started to pull away the final 10 minutes of the half. Mid-South would take their largest lead of the night coming off a Jesse Washington lay up with 3:30 left in the game. CBC's Tyrome Hurts would hit a 3 as the final buzzer sounds giving us the final score of 92-73.
"Any win is a good win, so I'm thankful for that. However, I'm pretty disappointed with the lack of effort, urgency, and focus we had tonight. We just went through the motions, not executing rotations, not taking care of the ball, not going up strong in the paint. The good thing about all this is when we go back and watch the film and being able to point it all out. We set 6 goals going into the game tonight, and we did not execute any of them. I felt that there was a lot of selfishness going on tonight and wanting to score their own points instead of wanting to do what's best for the team. We committing 25 turnovers, and I truly believe a lot of those were just careless and wanting to do things for ourselves instead of making the right play. We'll focus on it and get better. We have a tough road trip this weekend heading up to play Highland and Johnson County who we lost to in last years 7th place game in the National Tournament," head coach Cody Hastings had to say after the game.
The Greyhounds were led by sophomore's Je'Marion Westbrook and Jesse Washington. Westbrook would go on to score 27 points to go along with 16 rebounds and 5 assists, his 3rd double double of the season. Washington would go on to score 30 for the second time this young season, and added 7 rebounds with 6 assists.
Mid-South travels to Highland, Kansas Friday to face Highland Community College at 7:00pm. The Greyhounds will then face off against Johnson County at 1:00pm at Highland Community College.
