The Greyhounds traveled down to Fulton, Mississippi Tuesday afternoon to face off with familiar foe Itawamba where the Indians would defeat the Greyhounds 72-54.
Head coach Cody Hastings had to say this briefly after the game, "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them like we should have. Missing too many shot attempts at the basket and wide open shots. If we make those we're looking at a completely different game. We finally started to get back to playing how we needed to effort wise, but we just have to be more consistent. Moral of the story is we just have to hit shots, especially the wide open ones, and stop having such long droughts without scoring."
Jesse Washington would get the scoring going for the Greyhounds as he would knock down his first of four three's of the game off an assist from freshman Davonta Tucker. The Greyhounds would go on to take an early 12-5 lead with just over 5 minutes played in the first half. ASU Mid-South would go on to struggle offensively as they would only score 5 points in the last 10 minutes of the half. Chris Martin would knocked down a 3 with 23 seconds to go to cut the double digit lead to 7 heading into half with the Indians in front 32-25.
The Greyhounds came out hot to start the half as Martin would knock down the contested floated in the middle of the paint. The Greyhounds would pull back in front as they go on an 13-2 run capped off by a Jesse Washington posted dunk coming from a beautiful pass from fellow sophomore Kyrin Dock with just under 4 minutes played in the second half. Itawamba would follow it up with a 10-0 run of their own to take a 44-38 in the next two minutes. The game would remain close until the Indians would push the lead back to double digits with 7 minutes remaining. Washington would come down and knock down another 3 to cut the lead back to 7, but that is as close as the Greyhounds would get. The Greyhounds would go on another cold spell as they would only score 4 points in the last 6 minutes of the game, as Itawamba would start to put the game away.
Jesse Washington led the Greyhounds in scoring with 20 before fouling out, as Chris Martin was the only other Greyhounds to have double digits scoring 11. Kyrin Dock would have a game high 7 assist.
With the loss, the Greyhounds fall to 4-5 on the season. They host Shawnee Community College on Thursday, November 30th for their 3rd game in 4 nights. Tip-off is set for 7:00pm at The Dog House.
