Turnovers Cage Greyhounds

Head coach Cody Hastings kept it brief after the game, "We have to be better as a team, and I have to be better as a coach."
The first half was nothing short of entertaining as the Stars would lead the Greyhound going into the locker room at half 50-42. Both teams were staying within a possession or two throughout the entire period, but it was the Stars would would turn up the defensive pressure and forcing Mid-South into 12 first half turnovers in which the converted into 13 points. The Shooting Stars lived up to their name as they were 7-15 from beyond the arc in the 1st half led by Jamarian Cato's 17 first half points surpassing his season average in just the first 20 minutes. Damian Garcia also surpassed his season average scoring 14 points in the first 20 minutes. The Stars took advantage of the free throw difference as ASU Mid-South was 2-4 from the free the line while South Ark was 11-13.
The second half started off just as exciting as the first half with both teams trading baskets on both sides of the floor. Jesse Washington would score 16 of his 24 in the 2nd half really keeping the Greyhounds within striking range, but he was the only Greyhound to score over 5 points in the second half of play. The Greyhounds struggled in the 2nd half with their turnovers, this time committing 11. Luckily for Mid-South, the Stars were only able to turn those turnovers into 9 points. The Greyhounds were able to cut the lead to 3 off a Samuel Chapin 3 point shot, but that was as close as the Greyhounds would get. South Ark would slowly start pulling away hitting a pair of dagger 3's in the final minutes. Cato would lead the Stars with 23 points, and Garcia finished with 18. Raheem Briggs finished with 11 and Jalen King with 10 to round out the double digit scoring.
Jesse Washington led ASU Mid-South with 24 points and 5 rebounds. Je'Marion Westbrook would add another double double to his season total adding 14 points and a game high 14 rebounds. Kyrin Dock finished with 13 points and 7 assists, while Davonta Tucker rounded out the double digit scoring with 10 while also grabbing 6 rebounds.
The Greyhounds host SAU Tech Thursday, February 1 in The Dog House. Tip-off is set for 7:30 following the women's game.
