"We were not engaged from the beginning. We went through the motions, and didn't have any purpose to anything that we were doing. Offensively we got the looks we wanted, we just didn't convert any. Defensively we didn't do anything we were supposed to. Rotations were either slow or nonexistent, coverages weren't what we talked about. It's on me for not having these guys physically and mentally prepared. We see these guys in 4 days in the first round of the region tournament, and we will be more prepared ready to go." Head coach Cody Hastings had to say after the game.
Things were looking good out of the gate for the Greyhounds as Jesse Washington would hit 2 of his first 3 point attempts. The Greyhounds would go on a 5 minute drought, in which the Colts would go on a 14-0 run during that time. The Colts found their groove from the outside as they would hit 8 1st half 3's led by Nick Moye who had 5 of the 8. The Colts would take a 48-33 lead into the half.
The 2nd half started much like the first as the Colts would hold a double digit lead for majority of the 2nd half. The Greyhounds kept fighting as they were about to cut the lead to 8 with just under 4 minutes remaining giving themselves a chance to get right back into the game. ASU Mid-South would have numerous opportunities to cut the lead to just two possessions, but the story of the Greyhounds night continued as they just could not seem to get their shots to drop. The defense picked up, forcing the Colts into multiple turnovers in the 2nd half especially later in the game, giving the Greyhounds those opportunities to get the game closer, but at the end as the shot clock was turned off Kaharie Loggins would throw down a dunk giving the Colts their last bucket of the game.
Jesse Washington led the Greyhounds in scoring with 22 points and also added 5 rebounds. Kyrin Dock finished the game with 16 points and 5 assist. Je'Marion Westbrook rounded out the double figure scoring for ASU Mid-South scoring 15 points and grabbing 8 rebounds.
The Greyhounds finish the regular season 16-14 and 5-7 in Region play. ASU Mid-South grabs the 5 seed for Region 2 Tournament held at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas starting February 28th. The Greyhounds will face off with UA Cossatot, with tip off set for 3:00.
