"It's a tough place to play and when you don't give them your best shot for all 40 minutes it's going to be hard to leave with a win. I thought we played pretty well, and kudos to coach Hunter. He made the adjustment to go zone and it really slowed us down. He made the proper adjustments and I didn't. He outcoached me especially there late in the second half. There's no one to blame/point the finger at other than me. We'll get better, but I really feel like we let one slip away. We'll get back to work and we have 3 home games next week, so we need to use that to our advantage and get us trending back in the right direction." head coach Cody Hastings had to say after the game.
When these two teams meet, a close game is almost always bound to happen with both teams giving each other their best shot. Both teams would struggle to get going early, but it was the Greyhounds who would take a slim 30-28 lead going into the half. For the Greyhounds it was the hot shooting from outside that helped give them the lead shooting 5 for 13 from deep in the first half. For the Pioneers, it was the complete opposite as they would score 14 of their 28 points in the paint.
North Arkansas would come out and score 5 quick points to start the 2nd half, as the Greyhounds would respond with a run of their own. ASU Mid-South would go up by 8 on a Jaxson Yancy 3 pointer with just over 14 minutes remaining in the game which would cause an North Arkansas timeout. A timeout in which would change everything from both sides. For the remainder of the game, the Pioneers would outscore the Greyhounds 40-18 in the final 14 minutes of the game giving them the 78-64 victory over ASU Mid-South.
North Arkansas was led by Jaxon Berry's 21 points. David Johnson had 16, and Izaak Porter with 15.
Jaxson Yancy led ASU Mid-South in scoring with 21 points, followed by Jermaine Christopher with 15.
ASU Mid-South is back on their home floor as the welcome new Region 2 opponent PCCUA on Monday, December 9. Tip-off is set for 7:30.
