"Wow oh wow. I'm truly blessed and thankful for each and every one of the guys on this team. They all bring something a little different, and have adjusted well to everything we've done this year. We tried to use their smaller court to our advantage and really tried to force the issue, and we did that for some parts of the game, but they also did a great job of making us pay a few times as well. We have to stop putting ourselves into these situations and play the right way with the lead, otherwise it will come back to get us. I hope not, but eventually things aren't going to fall our way. We'll enjoy this for the bus ride back to West Memphis, but it's time to shift our focus to SAU Tech and the first round of the conference tournament. Win or go home. Absolute favorite time of the year." head coach Cody Hastings had to say after the game.
The Greyhounds came out hot, and jumped out to a quick lead before the Colts settled in. The Greyhounds would lead the entire first half, but only took a 44-39 lead into the half. The 2nd half started our real sloppy for the Greyhounds, and the Colts took advantage of those opportunities. The Colts would have a 5 point lead with just over a minute left, which had ASU Mid-South stratching and clawing to find way to get stops. Fortunately for ASU Mid-South, UA Cossatot would struggle at the line giving the Greyhounds a chance down by 2 with just 3.2 seconds left on the clock. CJ Washington would receive the pass at halfcourt from Davonta Tucker, who would then toss the ball back to Jermaine Christopher who was sprinting full speed ahead. Christopher took two dribbles before releasing the ball with 0.2 seconds on the clock and banking the 3 in, giving ASU Mid-South the 86-85 victory to spoil UA Cossatot's Sophomore Day.
Jaxson Yancy led all scorers with 29 points. Yancy also collected 7 rebounds, dished out 4 assists, and had 4 steals. Jermaine Christopher ended with 17 points and 7 assists. CJ Washington, Darren Wallace, and Hayden Drumwright each finished with 8 points. Davonta Tucker finished with 7 points and 7 rebounds.
ASU Mid-South finishes the regular season 18-12 with a 12-4 conference record. The Greyhounds are the 2 seed heading into the conference tournament and will face the 7 seeded Rockets from SAU Tech. The first game will be Wednesday, February 26 at 1:00. All games will be played at Pioneer Pavilion on the campus of North Arkansas College in Harrison, Arkansas.
