Terrandus Smith's three-pointer tied the game at the end of regulation, and Dee Montgomery and Montee Randle hit big three-pointers in overtime as the Greyhounds defeated St. Louis Community College 90-84 Saturday at The Dog House.
ASU Mid-South led 39-33 at the half, but midway through the second half the Archers battled back and took the lead which resembled last season's District Championship game that St. Louis won last season. However, the Greyhounds never stopped battling even though they found themselves down six points with 45 seconds remaining in regulation. First, Montgomery hit a 30-foot three-pointer with 36.1 seconds to cut the lead to 76-73, and Randle got a steal, was fouled, and hit two free-throws to pull within 76-75. The Greyhounds then fouled to stop the clock with 31.7 seconds remaining, and after St. Louis hit two free throws, Smith then hit the three-pointer to tie the game.
In overtime, Smith knocked down a 15' jumper to break a tie, and Montgomery hit his seventh three-pointer of the game for a five-point Greyhound lead. St. Louis then pulled within three with an offensive rebound and putback with 1:35 left, but Montee Randle drilled a three-pointer for a six-point lead with 49.3 seconds remaining, and Terrandus Smith's two free throws set the final score.
Montgomery finished with 28 points while Terrandus Smith finished with 17 points and Trevor Banks added 12 points. The Greyhounds hit 13 three-pointers for the game while limiting St. Louis to just five from beyond the arc.
The Greyhounds move to 8-3 on the season and host Northeast Mississippi Community College Monday night as the second game of a doubleheader that features the women tipping off the action at 5:30pm.
