Racing to a 20-point halftime lead, the Greyhounds were never threatened as they cruised to a 113-92 victory over the visiting Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers.
Northeast Mississippi shared the MACJC North Division title on the way to the MACJC Tournament championship game last season and entered the game with an 8-1 record while receiving votes in the NJCAA Division I national poll. And in the NJCAA Division I national poll released Tuesday, December 12, the Tigers are ranked #21 in the nation.
The Greyhounds wasted no time in taking a 5-0 lead to start the game, then continued the onslaught with a flurry of three-pointers to lead by as many as 27 points in the first half. The Tigers would trim the lead for a 55-35 halftime score, but never got closer than 16 points the rest of the way as the Greyhounds controlled the tempo and continued to attack the paint throughout the second half.
Dee Montgomery led all scorers with 31 points including half of the Greyhounds' 10 three-pointers for the game. Terrandus Smith and Trevor Banks both finished with 15 points, and Montee Randle continued to stock the stat sheet with 14 points, 6 rebounds and a game-high 6 assists while Terrikous Smith went for 14 points and 6 rebounds as well. But it was Kamron Rose who came off the bench to help the Greyhounds control the paint as the 6'8" freshman recorded 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocked shots for his fourth double-double of the season.
The Greyhounds enter the Christmas break with a 9-3 record having lost their three games by a total of 8 points to two NJCAA Division I teams and to NJCAA Division II Parkland College who is currently ranked #3 in the national poll released December 12 in which ASU Mid-South is receiving votes for the first time in program history.
The Greyhounds take to the road after the new year to face NJCAA Division I programs Wallace State-Hanceville and Bevill State in Alabama on January 5-6, then return to The Dog House on Monday, January 8, to host Bethel University JV.
