The Greyhounds jumped out to 22-14 lead in the first half before a Montee Randle jumpshot broke a 16-0 Ranger run as the Rangers led 30-24 with 7:44 to play in the first half. The teams would then trade baskets until the Rangers went on a 16-4 run in the last 3:01 for a 56-37 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Greyhounds would battle back, narrowing the lead to 82-73 with 7:29 left, but the Rangers would hold off the Greyhounds the rest of the way for the win.
Terrandus Smith led ASU Mid-South with 22 points and eight rebounds while K.J. Patrick finished with 21 points and seven boards. Montee Randle scored 14 points to go with seven rebounds, five assists and five steals, and Dee Montgomery chipped in 12 points.
ASU Mid-South's Patrick and Trevor Banks were the only two players who fouled out of the contest, and the Greyhounds took a 42-41 rebounding advantage. However, 28 Greyhound turnovers -- 18 in the first half -- to the Rangers' 24 did not help their cause.
The Greyhounds next travel to Rhodes College in Memphis for a 3:00pm tipoff Saturday before returning to The Dog House Monday at 6:00pm as they host Crowley's Ridge College JV.
