Having to earn it through a hard-fought battle, the Greyhounds (21-5) emerged with a 95-88 victory over the National Park College Nighthawks, setting the school record for wins in a single season.
The victory broke the record of 20 wins, set last season by a team that included eight players from this year's squad, won the Region 2 Championship, and advanced to the District XIII Championship for the second time in the last four years.
Against the pesky Nighthawks, the Greyhounds led by double-digits in the first half only to see their lead shrink to 50-43 at the half. And while the Greyhounds never trailed in the second half, National Park refused to go quietly, staying within striking distance but never able to find a lead.
The Greyhounds got a career-high 34 points from KeShaun Davis while Dee Montgomery finished with 21 points and six assists. Terrandus Smith chipped in 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds, as did Trevor Banks, and Shaheed Halk dropped six dimes as well.
The Greyhounds return to the friendly confines of The Dog House Monday as they host Champion Christian, then host West Kentucky Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in which the Greyhound sophomores will be honored.
