Withstanding a second-half rally, the Greyhounds finally put away the Rhema College Eagles 104-82 Thursday at The Dog House.
Rhema came out of the gate firing on all cylinders as they hit their first four shots, including three triples, to lead 11-6 at the 16:50 point in the first half. The Greyhounds stayed within striking distance until a Zach Byrd finish in the paint gave ASU Mid-South a lead they wouldn't relinquish, 37-35, with 5:02 left. The Greyhounds would then finish the half with a 19-7 run to lead 56-42 at the break.
The Greyhounds began the second half in control, pushing the lead to as many as 18 points, but the Eagles would make one more run before ASU Mid-South would finally pull away.
Trailing 72-54 at the 14:00 mark after a Kevin Fulton three-pointer, Rhema held the Greyhounds scoreless for nearly four minutes to pull within 72-68 until a Jalen Lynn traditional three-point play broke the spell. The ASU Mid-South defense would then take their turn, holding the Eagles to just three points over the next 4:30 to lead 92-71 at the 5:42 mark after back-to-back baskets from Jarius Sharp including a beautiful alley-oop in transition from Jalen Lynn. The Greyhounds pushed the lead to 100-74 on a Christian White dunk from Lynn and coasted the rest of the way.
The Greyhounds shot an incredible 67.7% from the field and 50.0% from the three-point line while holding Rhema to 44.1% shooting. ASU Mid-South also dominated the boards, holding the Eagles to only 18 rebounds for the game while pulling down 47.
Jalen Lynn led all scorers with 28 points on 12-of-17 shooting, and Ike Moore was a fantasy players dream, finishing with 23 points on 10-of-12 shooting, 8 rebounds, and team-highs of 7 assists and 3 steals. Zach Byrd registered his fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Christian White added 12 points and Jarius Sharp came off the bench for 11 points.
ASU Mid-South (14-5) returns to the road for the next three games before finishing with a considerable homestand, playing seven of their final eight games at The Dog House. They take on Region 2 rival North Arkansas College in Harrison Saturday before trips to Northwest Mississippi CC Monday and West Kentucky CTC on Thursday. Their next home game is Saturday, February 1, at 4:00pm against South Arkansas College.
