Jalen Lynn, Ike Moore, and Zach Byrd have been named to the NJCAA All-Region 2 Basketball Team for their play during the 2019-20 season. Lynn and Moore were both named to the First Team while Byrd was named to the Second Team.
The All-Region Teams are based on Region coaches rankings and composed of five First Team and five Second Team members, with the player receiving the most points earning Most Valuable Player honors. Sheldon Stevens, a 6'3" guard from SAU Tech, earned MVP honors for the second consecutive season, and the sophomore has already signed a scholarship to continue his career at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Jalen Lynn was named to the All-Region First Team for the second consecutive year as the 6'0" guard averaged 19.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists through the regular season while shooting 47.2% from the field, 36.9% from the three-point line and 83.9% from the free throw line. The sophomore from Collierville, Tennessee, has earned Region 2 Player of the Week honors three times this season and is the first player in ASU Mid-South history to score 1,000 career points.
Starting all 30 games this season, Ike Moore earned All-Region First Team honors after averaging 16.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and a team-leading 1.5 steals per game while shooting 49.9% from the field, 42.7% from the three-point line, and 77.8% from the free throw line. The 6'4" guard from Fort Smith, Arkansas, has signed a scholarship to continue his career next season at Pittsburg State University (KS) and makes the Greyhounds the only team in the region to have two First Team honorees.
Zach Byrd earns All-Region Second Team honors for the second consecutive season after averaging 9.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 57.5% from the field, 47.8% from the three-point line, and 67.0% from the free throw line. The 6'3" guard/forward from West Memphis is the only player in ASU Mid-South history to record a triple-double (double figures in three offensive categories) and set the school single-game rebounding record earlier this season with 20 rebounds against Crowley's Ridge College JV.
ASU Mid-South (23-7) earned the #1 seed in the Region 2 Tournament which takes place March 1 & 3 at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, and is the only school with three players earning All-Region honors. SAU Tech, North Arkansas College, and National Park College all placed two players on the teams while newcomer South Arkansas Community College placed one player on the Second Team. ASU Mid-South's Chris Parker was named the Region 2 Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.
The Greyhounds play fourth-seeded National Park College Sunday at 5:00pm before #2 SAU Tech takes on #3 North Arkansas College at 7:00pm. The winners will play Tuesday, March 3, at 7:30pm in the championship with the winner advancing to the District playoff.
