The Greyhounds are ranked #13 in the nation in the NJCAA Men's Basketball Preseason Poll released today.
Finishing #17 in the final poll last season after capturing their fourth NJCAA Region 2 title in a row, this is the fourth season in a row the Greyhounds have been ranked in the nation's top 20 teams at some point in each season. Last season's team finished with a 25-8 record but lost four starters including NJCAA All-American Jalen Lynn who signed with the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and fellow First Team All-Region guard Ike Moore who signed with Pittsburg State University (KS).
However, the Greyhounds return starting point guard J.T. Smith (6'3") and sharpshooters Kevin Fulton (5'8") and Kylon McCullough (6'5") as well as third-year utility player Monroe Carr (6'5"). They also reloaded with a freshman class that includes All-State forward Sam Smith (6'7") from Arkadelphia (AR), 6A State Tournament MVP Jeremiah Jones (6'0") from Little Rock Central High School (AR), and All-State guard Spencer Simes (6'2") from North Little Rock (AR).
The Greyhounds open the season at home against Williams Baptist University JV and will play a shortened season of 20 games due to the COVID pandemic. The NJCAA Region 2 Tournament will take place at Harding University's Rhoades Field House in Searcy, Arkansas, in April, and the winner receives an automatic bid to the NJCAA National Tournament held in Danville, IL. ASU Mid-South last played in the National Tournament in 2018, taking fifth place after compiling an outstanding 29-6 record.
